On November 23 a violent earthquake occurred with the epicenter near Santo Antonio on Pico.
The earthquake caused major damage, with many houses partially damaged, fallen walls and displaced streets and roads, the parishes of Bandeiras Santa Luzia, Santo Antóónio and São Roque in the north coast of Pico and São Mateus in the south coast and damaged the parishes of Conceição, Matriz and Flamengos in the island of Faialb (text Wikipedia)

M 7.4   23-11-1977   Depth 19.5 km   Argentina - killing 70 people
The earthquake was centered in the area of Bermejo and Caucete where the death toll was highest and where there was extensive damage. The death toll was 70, at least 300 were injured, and there was extensive damage in many of the surrounding areas. The main shock was followed by a number of aftershocks, some of which were quite strong. The largest was a magnitude 6.0 on November 24. A number of aftershocks had magnitudes of about 5.5.

At least 52 people killed, 600 injured, and extensive damage in the Manizales-Armenia area.
Felt throughout Colombia and (IV) in western Venezuela.
Also felt in Ecuador and Panama.
Dams, caused by earthquake related mudslides, broke on the Playonero and Cachira rivers during torrential rains killing at least 20 more people with as many as 60 missing in the towns of El Playon and Lebrija.

M 6.9   23-11-1980   Depth 6.9 km   Italy - killing 4,900 people
One of the world's deadliest earthquakes. Over 3,000 people killed, about 1,900 missing, 7,750 injured, 250,000 homeless and extensive damage in a 25,000 square kilometer area of Campania and Basilicata.
